Baybayin ng Anak Bathala :

Tagalog in game - there will be a lot of Tagalog names, terms, and phrases throughout the Anak Bahala game world. It's up to you to brush up on Tagalog. Some quest may require you to decipher Tagalog puzzles. For those who are unfamiliar to the language, this is your chance to learn. I provided a few links to some online Filipino/English dictionaries in the resource section and quite a few names for the items, weapons, armor, and locale are listed and available in this site. There will be some Bisayan and Ilocano terms used also.

Baybayin - is an ancient script that you will find used in the Anak Bathala world. During certain quests, you will need to learn how to decipher Baybayin puzzles. An excellent Baybayin resource link is Sari-Sari etc.

Baybayin in game - in the Anak Bathala game world, baybayin symbolizes "whispers" from the Gods; something like a "sixth-sense". These "signs" will often give you clues on what to do next in a quest or even tell you the name of an NPC character on the map that you can talk to. Read the section on "Talking to NPCs" in the commands page for more info.

Example: The screenshot above shows a typical use of Baybayin in AB. The map name suggests that the player is in the house of "Panday sa Pulo" or the "Blacksmith in the Island". The player is given a hint from the Gods in Baybayin that simply states "Panday" suggesting that the NPC will respond to that name. The player types in "hello panday" and the chat window opens.

Anak Bathala Baybayin - some Filipino/Tagalog linguistic purists may cringe since Anak Bathala uses both the original Baybayin system and the "Francisco Lopez Method" or the Spanish "+" kudlit system. This is intentional, harder and more advanced puzzles will use the old system while beginners will be deciphering the Lopez method. AB also has separate characters for D and R, normally they are represented by one character - however, for the sake of gameplay I chose to separate them; both characters are true Baybayin scripts, just in two different styles. These rules, styles, and methods are explained in-depth at Paul Morrow's Sari-Sari etc. site.
