Balita (News):
[AB news & Developer's blog]

[July 2007] On Hiatus...

My deepest apologies the Demo/Beta Server no longer works.

After many days and weeks of testing, looking for solutions, and frustrations, the answer finally boils down to this: my Internet service provider blocked all server activity/access because it was in violation of their terms of service. After communicating with them about the issue, they made it clear that if I wanted to run a game or web server I would need to upgrade my account/service to a business type pipeline - which requires me to pay more per month of course. To my dismay, I just don't have that kind of funds right now. :(

So, my game plan right now is to develop the game offline then later on, find some way to afford and be able to run a commercial server. I'm so sorry, this may take a long while.

The AB story remains the same and our current focus is to publish it as a novel or a Manga/Illustrated Novel format to earn some money. We definitely would love to continue with the project, but we're finding it hard to do without any money.

A part from this game, there are other Filipino related things that I'm working on, such as Baybayin Fonts. Several of which are available for download now from my Deviant Art gallery here: http://nordenx.deviantart.com/

I thank you all for your patience and support. Until next time... We will get through this. Mabuhay!

[Feb 2007] On Hiatus...

MaharlikaMy sincere apologies to those who are waiting for some significant development in the project. At this point, we are out of funds so we are putting the MMORPG part of the project on hold indefinitely. There has been considerations about switching game engines to Panda 3D or even Flash or Java. The format of the game will definitely change.

The Demo Server will continue to run.

We have a NEW IP ADDRESS: 72.132.163.61 is the permanent address (for now) of the Demo/Beta Server.

[April 2006] On Hiatus...

MaharlikaI am taking a break from development for a couple of months. The server will remain online for people who want to play around and test the demo.

I am back to putting the background story into a formally written story, a couple of book editors took interest in my rough draft so I'm considering writing a short novel.

I am also working on another project with a team of independent game developers. I figure I need to work on a project with other people again. I need the renewed experience and I want to acquire new skills. But don't worry, I am not neglecting the AB Project. As a matter of fact, I might invite some of the team to work on the project when we are done with the other.

Several factors are making me consider remaking AB in a 3D format. First off, the PW engine and the other engine that I was going to port AB to along with these engine's community & support sites are constantly having internal troubles and are getting old. Honestly, it is kind of discouraging the way their sites disappear & reappear (losing the previous sites data) constantly having to scrounge for code resource, help, examples, and tutorials. I am now seriously looking into 3D game engines.

Until then, thanks for your continued support. The AB project continues despite of setbacks.

MABUHAY!

The new IP: 72.132.163.61 is the permanent address (for now) of the Demo/Beta Server.

The "Character Concept" Art you see on the left were supposed to inspire me to work on the project - it did for a while but then my health went bad and I was sick for more than a week. I'm sorry to say that no work was done to the Demo/Beta this month except for research on the new engine.

Speaking of the new engine, it looks promising. I just have to get my lazy self to actually get to work on it. I can't promise when I can release any working sample or screenshots of it. For now, the old Beta/Demo/Server still runs and will continue to run for all of you who would like to see what's up whit this project.

Thanks to all those who drop by to try out the game and those who regularly play around in the Beta/Demo server.

Thanks to those who help keep the server running. Without your donations, this project couldn't exist. Some of the AB funds were used to purchase an additional 512Mb stick of RAM bringing the total to a Gig of memory. This eliminated some of the server slowdown and lag when I am using the PC/Server for other development projects.

Happy New Year!

Image hosted by Photobucket.comShopping for a new & better engine and dev team members.

I am looking for talented and dedicated team players to assist us with the project. More information will be posted later on. Those who are interested can contact me through email.

There will be several changes regarding the game's dynamics, however, the project's goals remain the same. Please read the Contact/About pages.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

The Open Beta server and client has now been downgraded as a DEMO

[December 2005] Continuing Development

Important Notice/Updates!

Much has happened during the holidays. Since last October, the Player World site has been down and I did not have access to resource information such as bug fixes and reports. I have grown impatient. This is not the first time P. W. vanished, and like the previous disappearance - the site was up a couple of months later. More than a month is more than enough for me to change my mind. I've decided to look for an alternative engine for the project. If I can't port it, I have to start from scratch. I'm thinking it's time to take on a few dev team members.

The Open Beta server and client has now been downgraded as a DEMO
. It will remain active while we develop the game on the new engine. Most accounts will be purged with the implementation of the new engine, with the exception of some of the loyal beta testers who will be compensated for their loyalty and hard work initially. Their accounts containing their leveled up character will be transferred on the new server; their characters will start at a reasonably high level with higher attributes than most.

OPEN BETA Tests Continues

Panday sa Pulo  "the Island Blacksmith"

Aswang I started to work with PW's Open Browser function to add more depth in the story line by using graphic novel type strips. These pop-ups will give clues to quests/side-quests or even flash mini-games. Preliminary tests went well, although we found out that you have to allow your fire wall or antiviral software to let the client to fully access the internet - this is just a minor inconvenience. This feature is such a powerful tool, if done correctly. Integrating it into the game adds to the immersion experience, I plan to gradually expand on this feature later on in development. In the meantime, development continues, I'm adding more maps and making more GFX additions and updates. Expect a client update sometime soon this month. Also, the creators of the SecuRemove tool (which allows you to access the game from multiple PCs) created an update for AB. The password box is now masked and Dave added a pretty solid encryption for added security. Thanks Dave!

 Yungib Bungo "Cave of Skulls"

Download the latest client available for download - version 1.03. Some ambient sound effects are implemented which really adds to the depth and atmosphere of the game. The AB world continues to expand, we added a couple of rudimentary quests and introduced a few new monsters and maps (see maps/screens section for more info). The in-game activity this month has been slowly increasing day by day, according to server logs we now have 200+ registered accounts (although only a dozen or so are active and most are just curious visitors who check the game from time to time). We have a couple of dedicated testers who regularly posts in the Beta Testers Forum, we'd like to see more input from the community. We invite everyone to post their opinions and suggestions in the forum. We are also finally counting our website's activities and statistics starting this month. The site is now being hosted under www.nordenx.com and the mirror site and forum still in www.pinoyforum.net. ..

Anak Bathala Beta Version 1.02
Anak Bathala Beta Version 1.02 is now available for download.

A new integrated loader (Anak Bathala.exe) is bundled in the installer along with a network security tool that fixes/enables players to now play on different computers without the disconnect errors that we were experiencing during the Demo stage.

Also, ambient background sounds have been added to the game.

I have been experimenting offline on using web based features that may extend Anak Bathala beyond Player World's limitations. So far, the private tests seem promising. I'll let you guys know more about it as we get some significant progress with it.

It also sounds like by word of mouth AB has begun gaining some serious interest. We have been talking with a couple of Internet Cafe' owners in the Philippines who would love to give AB a try. I'll post their web links in the Resources Section when we start our test run!

Also, AB may be featured on some Philippine TV shows in the near future! We'll keep you posted!

OPEN BETA!Aswang

Okay, here we go... we sent out invitations last month to a few individuals and conducted a Closed Demo Test of AB. So far so good, right? Now we need to test and develop the game full time, so we're going Open Beta! ;)  For more info, go to the Open Beta page or go ahead and download the client from the Downloads Section.

Please bear in mind that the Beta may be buggy. If you encounter any problems, please report it here: Beta Tester's Feedback

A while back, while preparing the demo installer, a lot of the pre-made map files got corrupted during the backup process (bad CD-R). So, now I'm starting out from what I had left in the demo, which is not so bad considering I added a few new tiles in the GFX tile-set. What I'm irritated about is the scripts that I lost, having to retype all those lines of codes is a chore! Anyway, everything is not lost. You guys are just going to start out on a small map and watch it grow as I continue adding maps.

Mid-month updates:
Aswang

It's rare that I post news updates this often. There have been a lot of things happening this month. First off, I finished my training and am now based about 5 minutes away from home; my new job is going well so far. I am still looking into servers and am closing in on buying one.

Because of the INQ7 interview, I began receiving more legitimate interest in the game. I started corresponding with a couple of contacts from the videogame industry in the Philippines. A good friend of mine from my high school days, who I recently learned that he actually works within the industry, is helping me branch out and network with potential supporters. We also got a hold of other good friends of ours who are in key positions that may help promote the project.

You may have noticed that I have added more pages in the site such as the News Archive page, the Art / Images Page, and the Server Status Page (link in the bottom of the main page).

I’ve finally begun to implement Baybayin into the game. They serve as clues, somewhat like a “sixth sense”, that are given to the player by the Gods of the AB world. Read more about it here: Baybayin ng Anak Bathala.

We've been blogged: a visitor wrote a short entry about AB on his blog with a link back to this site. Very cool! Check it out on his Aug. 14, 2005 entry - Kiven's Site.

MandirigmaNordenx Interviewed by Hackenslash.net about Anak Bathala

A couple of weeks ago, co-editor of hackenslash.net (the gaming news site of INQ7.net which is the joint-venture online news company of the Philippine Daily Inquirer and GMA Network.) Joey Ararilla sent me an email interview about AB. You can read the full article from this direct link: Is the Philippines ready for the first Filipino MMOG?  Again, I'm not so sure about being the "first" Filipino MMOG, though I still haven't found any other MMORPG made by a Filipino that is set in the Philippine Islands. It's a great honor to be featured on Hackenslash.net. Thanks, Joey!

[July 2005] Under Development

BabaylanOne year since conception, www.AnakBathala.com domain registered, transitioning to the version 2 pinoyforum.net:

A year ago from now, I imagined the world of Anak Bathala. Today, I am hard at work to release a playable client/server demo pack.

Yes, you read it right. I'm stripping down some of the codes and graphics and making a downloadable demo of AB even before I turn on an online game server. Why you ask? Because I've received a couple of official inquiries about the game from gaming publications & websites; but before they can feature AB, they want to at least play a sampling of what it's all about.

I also registered the domain AnakBathala.com and directed the URL to the PinoyForum.net host. Trying to be official looking & professional, right? ;)

AB Project host pinoyforum.net just updated to a new version, AB is transitioning to their new forum...
